You should be cautious not to give these to babies under a year old, as honey is not recommended for them at such a young age.
- Colic – For a child experiencing colic, you can feed them soothing chamomile tea. This relaxes their intestinal muscles and keeps them calm at the same time. Steep the tea for about 5 minutes and let it cool. Pour an ounce or two into their bottle for them to drink. Do not give baby more than 4 ounces of it per day; Leave them with some space for breast or formula milk.
- Bug Bites – Bug bites are super itchy and irritating which often has its way of putting your children in a bad mood or might even cause them to throw tantrums. A small amount of baking soda paste on the bite can do so much with easing the itch as baking soda counteracts the acidic swelling. Make a mixture of a teaspoon of baking soda with just the right amount of water to make it a thick paste. Smear on the bites and let it dry.
- Nosebleeds – Sometimes your child’s nose is bleeding and the sight of blood may be too much for all of you to take. Cayenne pepper is a spice that helps the blood to clot and stop further bleeding. Keep your child’s head upright while pinching the nose for several minutes. Sprinkle some cayenne pepper on a moistened cotton ball and dab on the inside of the nose where the bleed is coming from.
- Congestion – Your contact lens solution can be used for other purposes besides storing and cleaning your contacts. In this case, it can be used to cure congestion. - Car Sickness – Are you planning to take a trip somewhere but worried about your child getting car sickness? No need to worry. Ginger helps to stop stomach contractions, which signals the brain that he or she feels nauseous. For children 2 years and up, take a teaspoon of freshly shredded ginger to 4 ounces of boiling water. Let it sit for 5 minutes and add a bit of honey to make it taste better. When cooled, let the child drink it half an hour before the trip.
- Swelling – For any injuries that your child gets out from being active, you can apply cucumber slices to soothe the hot swollen skin. Replace the slice with a new one from the fridge once it becomes warm.
